Pääsimme Utahissa Ogdeniin asti, johon pysähdyimme tavallista aikaisemmin noin neljän aikaan, johtuen molempien kasvavasta väsymyksestä. Löysimme ihan mielenkiintoisen motellin, Ogden Lodgen, jossa tuntui asuvan suuri määrä pidempiaikaisia asukkeja, näistä osa vielä melko nukkavierun näköistä sakkia. WLAN ei tietenkään toiminut kunnolla tämän surkean Netgearin USB adapterin kanssa (oma WLAN-korttini ei toimi). Tämä kapinehan siis ensinnäkin löytää verkkoja heikommin kuin kännykkäni, ja toisekseen jumittaa koneeni täysin randomisti...tämä on siis todettu ongelma tietyillä kokoonpanoilla; sain tämän toki selville vasta vehkeen ostamisen jälkeen. No, joka tapauksessa jouduin mennä ulos motellin toimiston viereen portaille käyttämään nettiä, jotta voisin julkaista uusimman blogiartikkelin. Hyvin nopeasti pihaan kaartoi muutama kyttäauto, ja poliisit parveilivat erään motellihuoneen edustalla ja erehtyipä yksi epäillyn tuttavistakin siihen puolustelemaan epäiltyä, jota ilmeisesti epäiltiin huumeiden ja varastetun tavaran diilaamisesta. Osa poliiseistakin näytti olevan huumepoliiseja DEA:sta. Odotin jo rynnäkköä sisään, mutta sitä ei koskaan tapahtunut...laverteleva epäillyn tuttavanainen sen sijaan lähti poliisiauton kyydissä pois. Harmin paikka, ettei sattunut kameraa mukaan.
Juuri muuta jännittävää iltana ei sitten sattunutkaan, mitä nyt normaalia enemmän jäätymisiä kummaltakin milloin minkäkin kanssa. Seuraavana päivänä lähdimme kohti Salt Lake Citya, jossa tarkoituksemme oli pysähtyä muutamaksi tunniksi ennen kuin jatkaisimme matkaamme. SLC olikin ihan mukavan oloinen kaupunki, tosin emme tutustuneet sen lähemmin muuhun kuin mormonitemppelin ympäryksiin keskustassa. Siellähän tosiaan korkein pilvenpiirtäjäkin on mormonikirkon toimistorakennus.
Keskustakiertelyn jälkeen painelimme kaupungin laitamille Treverin ehdottamaan purilaismestaan, joka olisi kuulemma yksi Utahin parhaimpia. Ja olihan se. Näin äkkiseltään sanoisin, että Cotton Bottomin garlic cheeseburger on paras tähän asti maistamistani hampurilaisista. Aivan loistava, täydellinen hampurilainen. Mesta itse kaiken lisäksi näytti parhaat päivänsä nähneeltä, mutta ulkonäkö petti jälleen kerran. En vaan voi ymmärtää, miten Suomessa ei missään ravintolassakaan päästä edes täkäläisten paremmanpuoleisten pikaruokaketjujen tasolle, saati sitten lähellekään näitä oikeita bursaparatiiseja. Miikalle yllättäen jäi hieman nälkä, mutta itselläni ei totisesti vastaavaa ongelmaa ollut.
Jatkoimme matkaamme Cotton Bottomista kohti etelää, ja pysähdyimme lopulta Cedar Passiin, Utahin puolelle vielä, josta seuraavana päivänä olisi tarkoitus vierailla pikaisesti Zion National Parkissa, josta tiemme jatkuu kohti Vegasia. Vegasissa meillä on jo huone varattu kolmeksi yöksi, sijainti aivan loistavasti siinä Bellagion eteläpuolella.
Tässä muuten leipä, joka meinasi voittaa jopa Miikan iltapalalla. Poika sai kuitenkin survottua sen naamaansa.

We continued our way down from Yellowstone until we reached Ogden, Utah. Both of us were pretty tired after the cold nights in the highlands of Yellowstone, which is why we took this early stop 30 miles north of Salt Lake City. We found an interesting motel called Ogden Lodge; it turned out to have a fairly large number of more or less permanent residents, some of them of, should I say, suspicious character. Amusingly enough a cop car was parked next to our room when we arrived, with the officer obviously responding to some sort of noise complaint.
Not surprisingly I was having trouble with my Netgear USB WLAN adapter again, not being able to connect from our room. Not only does the adapter have a very weak reception (I get a better reception with my cell phone), it also frequently causes my laptop to crash. This is a fairly common problem with Netgear adapter, it turns out. Anyway, I had to go outside next to the lobby to get connection so I could publish the latest blog article. It didn't take long until the cops turned up again, this time looking for some dude who was suspected of dealing dope as well as stolen merchandise, from what I could hear. There were some standard cops there along with the DEA, and I was expecting them to bust down the door; the scene was just like in COPS! Unfortunately the crackdown never transpired and I didn't even have my camera with me so I couldn't take any photos.
That's all that really happened that night, and the next morning we were off again towards the south. We spent a few hours in Salt Lake City, just taking a look at the main sights, which included the capitol building (almost an exact copy of the one in DC, just smaller) and the area surrounding the mormon temple. After strolling around the temple for a while we headed back to the car and towards the suburbs of SLC in search of a particular eatery. Trever had tipped us of a great burger spot some miles from downtown SLC, called the Cotton Bottom. The place was supposed to have pretty much the best burgers in Utah. Which it did. In fact, I don't think I've ever had such a perfect burger! I had the garlic cheeseburger which I can totally recommend to anyone visiting the city. I just don't think I'll ever understand why they can't come even close to this level anywhere in Finland. What's so hard in coming up with even a moderately good burger, like the ones in Wendy's or Carl's Jr.? Oh well, I guess I'll just have to wait for some American to finally establish a decent burger spot in Helsinki...though I'm not sure why that'd ever take place.
After enjoying our burgers we headed towards south again and drove all the way to Cedar Falls, which is quite close to Zion National Park. Tomorrow we'll probably take a look at Zion and perhaps Bryce Canyon as well, which is supposed to be awesome. Then we'll be heading to Vegas where we've already got a room for three nights at a great location; right next to Bellagio! Can't wait to get there! It should be kept in mind though that it's gonna be much hotter than the last time I was in Vegas. The daily highs are in the lower 40s (celsius), while the lows only go down to 30C, which means it'll be hot all the time. Luckily it's probably as far from humid as it gets so it shouldn't be as bad as it sounds. That's what I'm hoping for anyway.
